Membership Options
The IACL welcomes new members and has the following three categories of membership:
- Individuals: scholars of constitutional law or associated disciplines and legal practitioners, including judges, with a demonstrated commitment to constitutional law.
- Associations (national, transnational subnational) of constitutional law.
- Scientific institutes in the field of constitutional law.
Institutional membership of the IACL
There are several advantages to being an institutional member of the IACL.
If you are member of an institutional organization which is member of the IACL (transnational, national and sub‐national associations or scientific institutes), you are automatically considered a member of the IACL which means that you do not need to pay an individual membership fee to the IACL.
Members of the IACL may join IACL research groups or form new research groups. Members may also participate in events organised by the IACL. The IACL sometimes grants its members discount for the registration fee, and priority or exclusive participation to IACL events. For these purposes you might be asked to prove that you are a member of a national association or scientific institute which is an institutional member of the IACL.
In addition, delegates of institutional members of the IACL have the right to vote at the IACL Council, which is the supreme organ of the IACL. See art. 10 of the Statute, https://iacl-aidc.org/index.php/en/the-iacl/statute-of-the-iacl.
Individual membership of the IACL
Individual membership is an alternative for those who are not affiliated with a national association or scientific institute, or who prefer this form of membership.
Individual membership entitles you to the benefit of IACL membership irrespective of your membership of other organisations. Individual members may therefore join IACL research groups or form new research groups and participate in events organised by the IACL and will also be eligible for members discount for the registration fee, and priority or exclusive participation to IACL events, when these benefits are available. For these purposes you might be asked to prove that you are an individual member of the IACL.
Individual members also have a consultative role at the IACL Council, which is the supreme organ of the IACL. Alternatively individual members from countries in which no national association exists may appoint a limited number of delegates to represent them at the Council subject to the rules of the Association. See art. 10 of the Statute, https://iacl-aidc.org/index.php/en/the-iacl/statute-of-the-iacl.
